Abstract: Several regional land
use conflicts have emerged over the last decade, deeply dividing the
communities of Moscow and Pullman. These conflicts can be framed as
both differences in economic perspectives and cultural clashes. Both
themes will be explored in selected local issues, including the
proposals to build two super Wal-Marts on the Palouse and the
Hawkins development. These have broader national and international
implications. Finally, a brief look at the current state of the
Palouse economy will be presented along with prospects for the
future. |
