Here is some
basic information about the School of Music and my studio.

The Lionel
Hampton School of Music has approximately 250 students and 23 full-time
faculty. As your bassoon professor, I am available to you five days a week
(and many weekends too!). In addition to bassoon lessons (one hour per week
for majors and 45 minutes per week for non-majors), you will also have
bassoon studio class or reed class once a week (optional for non-majors).
Studio Class -
you will
prepare for orchestral auditions and/or graduate school, discuss different
techniques (tonguing, breath support, tenor clef, alternate fingerings, high register, etc.), and
play bassoon ensemble
music. You will
also play for your peers. It is a great learning experience and a lot
of fun too! Click here to see the
studio class schedule.
Reed Class
-
we spend
most of our time adjusting reeds. If you make your own reeds already, you
will learn to fine tune them. If not, you will learn to make reeds using
our state-of-the-art reed-making equipment.
Studio Recital - Once or twice a year, the
bassoon studio will give a studio recital. This is an excellent
opportunity to perform in a more formal setting and to hear your colleagues
perform too.
