UI Signs Talloires Declaration

This key Sustainable University move was led by undergraduate Jonathan Teeters.  His planning included work in the fall 2002 environmental philosophy class and Conservation Social Science classes. Support came from students in the 2003 Sustainability Seminar (EnvS404), the ASUI (undergraduate student government), the Environmental Club, and his College of Natural Resources, as well as from key staff, faculty and administrators -- many of whom had worked with Jonathan on this plan since spring of 2003.

Read about it as the cover story in the spring newsletter of the Architecture school:
Architecture E-News

As noted, UI has five new leadership themes.  Each can unite sustainability with:

  • Promoting science and technology
  • Advancing the liberal arts and sciences
  • Catalyzing entrepreneurial innovation
  • Stewarding the environment
  • Understanding sustainable design and lifestyle
