Since fiscal year 2000, the percentage of students reporting cigarette use in the past 30 days has decreased in grades 6, 8 and 10.  However, there has been a slight increase in use by grade 12.  Further, it appears most cigarette use is beginning between grades eight and 10.  By grade 10, 5% of the respondents report smoking between 20 and 29 cigarettes a day.  This data is similar to state data in all aspects except that Region One has more students reporting use in the past 30 days.
