Independent Study/Correspondence Courses
Independent Study in Idaho (ISI) is a cooperative of four accredited Idaho institution (University of Idaho, Boise State University, Idaho State University, and Lewis-Clark State College). ISI delivers distance college education courses in both online and print-based formats. ISI college courses, sponsored by the cooperating institutions, parallel their on-campus counterparts in content and completion standards. Idaho residency is not required. The following are some of the ISI courses that are managed by the University of Idaho Psychology Department.
Psyc 101 Introduction to Psychology (3 cr) (C).
Satisfies core requirement J-3-d.
Intro to psychology topics, including
sensation and perception, learning and thinking, motivation,
personality and adjustment, social processes, psychological testing;
emphasis on fundamental principles.
Psyc 305 Developmental Psychology (3 cr) (C).
Conception to adolescence; genetics,
anatomy, physiology, biological changes during development,
learning, socialization, cognition, and personality.
Psyc 310 Psychology of Personality (3 cr) (C).
Theories of personality, basic concepts,
techniques of measurement, and experimental methods; the normal
personality.
Psyc 311 Abnormal Psychology (3 cr) (C).
Nature, causes, treatment, and prevention
of patterns of emotional disturbances and personality disorders,
including neuroses and psychoses.
Psyc 372 Physiological Psychology (3 cr). Prereq: Psyc 101, and Biol 102 or higher Physiological bases of animal and normal human behavior.
Psyc 390 Psychology of Learning (3 cr). Prereq: Psyc 218
Experimental literature of the nature and
conditions of classical and operant conditioning, verbal learning,
and cognition.
Psyc 415 History and Systems of Psychology (3 cr). Prereq: Two upper-division psychology courses.
History of psychology as a field of
scientific inquiry; overview of development of schools of thought,
prominent figures, and key theories.
Psyc 496 Applied Behavior Analysis (3 cr). Prereq: Psyc 218
Analysis and assessment of behavior in
real-life settings, e.g., home, business, industry, and institutions
such as prisons and psychiatric hospitals; structured programs of
intervention and assessment of behavior change; special emphasis on
self-management of behavior.
