BE THOROUGH AND COMPLETE

1. List three hallucinogens. Then, describe their duration of 
action, where they come from, some behavioral effects, etc.

2. List three types of opiates. Then describe their mechanism 
of action, what receptors each effect, etc. Use a table to help you with types of receptors each influence.

3. List three types of cannabinoids. Then describe their 
mechanism of action, receptors that are effected, behavioral 
effects, etc.

4. What is Ecstacy. What is its mechanism of action? What does 
it do? Why is it so dangerous?

Answer both of these questions. (25 points each)
5. List three types of stimulants. Then describe their mechanism of action, behavioral effects etc. Then compare and contrast short-term stimulants with longer acting stimulants? What are examples of each? Why are longer acting stimulants so addicting? Make sure your discuss biphasic effects.

6. During the past several weeks you have examined a variety of drugs and how they work. Many of these drugs develop rapid tolerance. Pick either a stimulant or an opiate and describe how tolerance develops with the drug. What might you see at the receptor level in relation to up and down regulation? Then describe what will happen when withdrawal occurs to the drug. What behavioral changes will you see? Make sure you describe how you get changes in the number of receptors. That is, what is the process you go through to get those changes? Be thorough and compete.
