Introduction:
 Although we often focus on the content and methods of
training design, the trainer may also exert a significant effect on
trainees. Unfortunately, relatively little research has been conducted on
characteristics of trainers. The one exception is work on trainer
expectations. We will discuss the results and implications of this research
and draw upon research regarding teaching effectiveness to identify
characteristics of effective trainers.
