A model of the transfer of training process is presented
which demonstrates the importance of several characteristics. Transfer of
training is believed to be influenced primarily by three general
characteristics: (1) trainee characteristics, (2) the design of the training
program, and (3) the work environment. We can also distinguish between two
general outcomes: (1) initial learning and retention and (2) generalization
and maintenance. We will discuss how various characteristics of the trainee,
the training program, and the work environment affects these possible
outcomes.
