WATCH THE FILM That's
the first part of the assignment. Enjoy that. Do not try to do this assignment by trying to remember a
film you have watched in the past!
Next, write a 1-2 page paper describing the film and analyzing it using
the material covered in chapters 6 & 7. You must make
reference to at least 3 chapter topics discussed in these
chapters.
To get full credit you will need to use the same terminology used in
the text to show how the story in your film provides an example of
research or theory discussed in the book. Feel free to watch
films with others enrolled in the class but each individual must turn
in an assignment written independently.
Example: I could watch the film the Joy Luck
Club. This is a film about several generations of Japanese women as
they struggle with the complexity and trials of their lives, including the
challenges of being mothers and daughters. I might
discuss this film in terms of the types social support available to one or more
of the characters and how that affected their life choices at various
times (topic 1). I might talk about someone's selection of a mate
and analyze that using one of the models discussed in chapter 4 (topic
2). I might discuss important developmental tasks in the Family Life
Cycle terms as depicted in the film (topic 3). Then flesh out each
of these topics using the theory and terminology presented in our
chapters.
