Psychology 305

is offered every semester in the Department of Psychology.
(grades for this semester)

This course is offered each semester as a classroom course and is also offered in a version adapted as a Web-based course.   The syllabus provides the basic structure of the course offered by Dr. Nekich.  Other instructors who may teach the course from time to time will vary in their choice of textbooks and the format of the course.

The course is well-organized, structured course that addresses the professional concerns of students entering fields like education, recreation, mental health, and human services.  It provides practical information for individuals who are, or plan to some day be, parents.  The course content also covers theory and research on topics central to the field of child development so it also prepares students planning to continue their studies in graduate school.

Lectures are supplemented with:

  • power point presentations that structure content
  • videotape segments to illustrate key concepts
  •  weekly homework assignments for concept building
  •  stories taken from student homework and other sources to highlight developmental milestones
  •  extra-credit opportunities are available to enhance classroom learning
