involvement of your principal and your students. Students are more likely to f=
ollow rules
that they “buy into” and that they understand the reason
behind the rule.
- Talk =
to
your mentor teachers (both as a student teacher and as a first-year
teacher – and beyond).
As a new employee, you will likely be assigned a mentor.
- This teacher is your “go
to” person. It cou=
ld be
someone you work with; it could also be someone at the University of =
Idaho. But, it must be someone you t=
ruly
trust.
- If there is a problem, send a
student for the school resource officer, the vice principal, or the
principal. Stay with your
students!
- Get to kno=
w your
students’ families.
Then, if you encounter a problem with a student, you will not b=
e a
stranger to your parents.

Make sure that you can send unruly students to the office. Now, that does NOT mean that =
you
send two sopranos passing notes to the office. The office should see the true
disruptors.
- Video record yourself
teaching. Those recordin=
gs do
NOT lie. You can easily =
spot
the reason that your control of the classroom went out the window.
