Jazz Bands
All auditions will be held early in the first week of classes.  Audition information and sign-up sheets will be on the Jazz Bands corkboard (across from Music 210).  For additional information please contact Vern Sielert: verns@uidaho.edu

Jazz band auditions will consist of:

1. A short prepared excerpt of your choosing (jazz ensemble part, transcribed solo, etc.)
2. Sight-reading
3. Improvisation - optional, but STRONGLY encouraged.

Play along accompaniment will be provided.

A sign-up sheet will be on the Jazz Bands corkboard (across from Music 210).


Orchestra
String players audition with Dr. Ferenc Cseszko on Tuesday afternoon, first week of classes (during fall semester). A sign-up sheet will be on the Orchestra board (across from Music 210).  For more details, please visit the UI Symphony Orchestra webpage.

All other players are auditioned by the faculty members of those instruments (see Wind Ensemble audition information).

What:

Spring Semester - Auditions are by appointment with the director, Dr. Michael Murphy.

The Vandaleer Concert Choir is a select auditioned group that seeks musicians who are disciplined and punctual, and who possess excellent musicianship, reading ability, and leadership qualities.

Audition requirements include a prepared, short solo piece that demonstrates the applicant’s best level of technical and expressive ability. The solo should be secure enough to be sung a cappella. Additional audition components include sight singing and tonal memory. Auditions are by appointment only.


Wind Ensemble and Orchestra Winds
and Percussion

Auditions (except for percussion) occur early in the first week of classes (by end-of-day Wednesday).  Students audition for the professor of their instrument.  Sign-up sheets for auditions will be placed on faculty doors by noon on Monday.  Students should be prepared to play an etude or solo piece, scales and sight-reading.

Marching Band Percussion Placement
Auditions will be Wednesday afternoon, on the Wednesday before classes start. Exact time TBA.  Auditions are not required for  instruments other than percussion.  See Marching Band website for more information.
