Assistant Professor of Music History

Tenure-track appointment beginning 2008-2009

Lionel Hampton School of Music

 

Responsibilities:

• Teach graduate and undergraduate courses in 20th/21st century music and bibliography/research methods

• Teach courses in additional areas such as American music, history of jazz, or world music

• Conduct significant scholarly research

• Oversee music library collection development, supervise library assistant and chair music library committee

• Direct M.A. theses in music history

• Participate in advising and committee work

• Advise graduate students

 

               Required Qualifications:

• Ph.D. in musicology or related area in hand, or within one year of completion from the date of appointment

• Specialty in American music and 20th-century music, jazz, or world music

• Record of success in teaching music history courses at the college level

• Record of scholarly papers and/or publications

 

               Desired Qualifications:

• Experience teaching from an interdisciplinary perspective

• Demonstrated commitment to undergraduate teaching

• Demonstrated ability to relate to students of diverse musical and educational backgrounds

• Experience mentoring and/or advising undergraduate or graduate students

• Understanding of library collection development and/or supervision

• Experience as a performing musician or composer
