Budget
Individual faculty members may have budget allocations.  Such allocations are distributed in response to requests for specific purposes such as travel, library acquisitions, instructional supplies, performance ensemble libraries, recruitment, and instruments and other equipment (repair and/or purchase).  Requests for budgets are usually generated in the spring semester.  However, some contingency funds are held in reserve with the understanding that opportunities and/or emergencies arise after the budget has been developed (usually by late July).  Requests for additional funds are handled on a case-by-case basis.  Faculty members should never commit or expend resources without prior approval from the Director of the LHSOM.

Production Crew
The LHSOM relies heavily on our student production crew to produce our events and to help with various projects.  Izzy Núñez (nuez2648@vandals.uidaho.edu) and Daniel Pitts (dpitts@vandals.uidaho.edu) are our Production Managers,  and Susan Hess is their supervisor.

Travel and Travel Authorization
Travel authorization must be secured from the Director and the Dean’s office at least two weeks in advance of any expenditure for work-related travel regardless of whether or not you are receiving funding from the LHSOM/UI.  This is especially important because of worker’s comp issues, since you are getting paid by the UI during your travel. Travel fund advances may be requested after travel approval is obtained. Absent the proper approvals, the budget office will not reimburse any travel expenses.  Travel Authorization Forms are available at http://www.class.uidaho.edu/music/content/facultyforms.html.

Campus Mail
Personal mail and packages should not be sent or received through the campus mail and receiving system. No stamped mail may be sent.  Outgoing mail must have a complete institutional return address (in the PO Box format) and a budget number bar code for metering.

Faculty Meetings
There will be a faculty meeting on the second Tuesday of each fall semester. Faculty meetings take place on the second Tuesday of each month at 2:30 in Room 116.  If additional meetings are needed, these will normally be scheduled on the fourth Tuesday of each month.

UI Library
The UI Library has several services that may be of interest to you.

  • If you request a CD, book or score through the web, the materials will be sent to you through campus mail.

  • Ben Hunter is the Humanities Librarian. You may contact him directly to order scores, books, CDs, etc.

LHSOM Advisory Committee
The LHSOM Advisory Committee meets once or twice a month to:  (1) discuss with the Director important matters pertaining to the internal functions of the School of Music and matters affecting the School of Music within the college, and shall recommend action to the Director; (2) serve as a standards committee in the disposition of curricular petitions and/or suggest routing of such petitions to other standing or ad hoc committees; (3) appoint members of standing committees as needed; (4) take an active part in the preparation and conducting of faculty meetings; (5) meet with constituents as needed; and (6) create such special committees as it may find necessary and appoint members thereto. Such committees so created shall report to the Music faculty.
