Mini-Project #2: Monster Storyboard

Core 102: The Monsters We Make

Spring 2003

Your first MP assignment was to write a short story with a monstrous theme.  This MP is devoted to the visual realization of that story.  In particular, you will submit an annotated storyboard for the monster story you wrote in Mini Project #1.   There must be at least 12 cells in your storyboard, each of which must be annotated with dialogue, movement, and basic shot information.  (See cell sheets.) You must write a 1 to 2-page companion essay that locates the storyboarded scene within the larger context of the story, providing all the necessary information, motivation, and impact of the portrayed scenes and any missing information necessary to understand your storyboard.  This is due February 28.

Here are a few example sites to give you a sense of the range of stroyboarding styles.

This project is worth 100 points. Your grade on this story will be determined as follows: (a) Drawings: 40%; (b) Annotations: 40%; (c) Companion Essay: 20%.  In evaluating your drawings, I will reward effort, your ability to realize your story visually, and your ability to make your reader feel your scene.  To get an “A” on this project, you needn’t be a skilled artist—you need only expend effort, thought, and time in preparing the cells and the annotations.
