The Monsters We Make Course Goals (MWM)

 

MWM #1: To discover the methods and explore the creation of the “monster myth.” 

MWM #1a:This exploration will examine the monstrous from a multitude of literary and visual sources.
MWM #1b: the interrelationship of the monster to both culture and society. 

MWM #2:To transfer an understanding of the monster in fiction to the monster  in real life.

MWM #2a: Creating an awareness of  the process of monster making.
            MWM #2a1: Develop an understanding of the perspective of the monster.  
            MWM #2a2: Understanding the perspective of the monster maker.

MWM #3: To examine, discuss and use various theories of literary, visual, and theatrical analysis

MWM #3a: Learn to unlock the hidden symbolism of Literary and visual arts. 
MWM #3b: In particular unpack the hidden symbolism of the monstrous and sublime cultural intellect found in the creation of the monster. 
MWM #4: To understand and apply critical thinking and problem solving techniques to resolve abstract concepts, social organization, and mental perception as they relate to the human need for the monster. 
 
MWM #5: To learn and practice various research skills. 
 
MWM #6: To demonstrate achievement of course goals through seminar discussions of cultural issues, film viewing critiques, and course projects combining the thought of the class surrounding these wide-ranging discussions and discoveries.
