Drake's Study Questions Guidelines
General
Each week there will be a few study questions that you will need to complete. Study questions are due in class and must be typed. Answers should be well edited, thoughtful and concise -- no more than seven lines per each question, please -- so choose your wording carefully, revise and edit.
WE DO NOT ACCEPT ANSWERS AFTER THE CLASS IN WHICH THEY ARE DO.
WE DO NOT ACCEPT HAND WRITTEN ANSWERS.
ANSWERS WITHOUT PROPER CITATIONS (pg numbers etc) WILL BE GRADED "Check Minus".
Be aware that computer system crashes may make accessing these questions difficult, so plan accordingly and don't wait to download the questions at the last minute!
There is a thin line between discussing the texts and cheating on your answers. Please make sure that the work you do is you own. If someone else wrote it down, you need to cite it.
Complete Answers
For every answer, you must refer to, quote and cite specific relevant passages from the texts. You do not need a Works Cited page, but you must cite relevant page numbers or web-addresses.
Study Question Grades
Study Questions are worth 10% of your overall
final grade and will generally be grade "check minus",
"check", and "check plus". Study Questions serve to
help you focus your reading and the grade serves to encourage you to keep up
with that reading. As you either already know or will soon learn, class lectures
and discussions usually seem meaningless or confusing when you haven't read the
related assignment. Along with failing to come to class, failing to keep up with
assigned reading is the easiest and most common way to fail a college level
class. Since the bulk of the information covered in any class is covered outside
of class, in the reading material, the easiest way to raise or maintain
decent grades -- not to mention get your money's worth out of a class -- is to
keep up with the reading assignments.
"Check minus": means that you
haven't taken adequate time to understand the reading material, the
questions,
or both, or you answered some but not all the questions etc. Plagiarism, use of canned term papers, or simply cutting and
pasting stuff off the Web will result in a minus score for that study question. If it happens more than once I'll make an appointment for you with Student
Advisory Services.
"Check": means that you answered
all of the questions with a fair amount of thought.
"Check
Plus": means that you
answered all of the questions with additional or exceptional thought or insight.
Format:
Use standard, readable, 12 pt font. Handwritten answers not accepted. At the top-left of the page, include:
Your name
Drake -- Monsters Section #
Date
SQ# ....
For each answer, include the question. You can easily do this by simply copy/cutting/pasting the questions to your Word Document and then type your answer below the relevant question. Please put a space or use different font or something to make the break between question and answer obvious.
