Humans in general do not want to kill one another.  During times of war the opposing side has to dehumanize the other side in able for soldiers to feel justified in killing.  War crimes were committed during WWI and before because there were no rules for war.  After WWI the Geneva Convention took place to make rules for war so atrocities against humanity could never take place again.  However, Japan did not sign the treaty.   That is why during WWII American propaganda depicted the Japanese as rats and dehumanized them so every American hated the Japanese.  Even after the Geneva Convention, war crimes are still committed during times of war.  However, war also has changed.  We are no longer fighting countries, we are fighting groups of people.  This topic is very broad because there are so many battles/wars/genocides where war crimes are committed.

Marie:  I’m going to talk about the crimes during WWI and WWII with propaganda and dehumanizing the other side.

Rich: the meaninglessness of the Geneva Convention/rules during war.

Caylon:  view enemy as war criminal but things we did were criminal if we would have lost.

Jesse:  Why rules of war are made and what there purpose is.
