I Forms: write synopses of:

Study cum-clauses. Review the ablative absolute.

II Translate into Latin:

1. Although he had brought a gift, he was not loved.

2. Since these things are so, Catiline must be sent into exile by us. ["Since these things are so" lit. "which [things] since they are so"]

3. Since those men were wicked they were unhappy.

4. They betook themselves to Italy as quickly as possible, in order to hear the most famous orator.  ("betook themselves" se conferre) (as...as possible: quam + the superlative.)

5. We must know first why you have come. (Review future passive periphrastic: "it must be know by us...")

6. Since they had spoken freely we believed them. ["believe" = credo, -ere, credidi, creditum + DATIVE].

7. Although he was a young man he was of calm mind.

8. I know how great your moderation  is and how calmly you bear all things. (moderatio, -onis, f.)

9. Let us wish to live better and more freely.

10. Let us bear these disasters  with a brave spirit.  ("disasters" = "evil things")

11. No one can be so old  that he does not think he can live one year. ("old" = senex, senis which can be used as a noun or adjective.)
