Algebra

From Medieval Latin from Arabic

al-jabr, the (science of) reuniting : al, the + jabr, reunification, bone-setting.

Many words that come into English from Arabic reflect the contribution of Arabic culture, science, and mathematics to the world, including:

algorism, alidade, alkali, zero, nadir, zenith, azimuth, barrio, cork, cotton, zero, magazine, marzipan, sofa,, lime, coffee, saffron, alcohol, alkali, alcove, alfalfa.

Many words beginning with al- (Arabic for the) reveal their Arabic origin.

Possibly olé, the Spanish interjection of approval and admiration, from Arabic Wallah! "By Allah"

And loco Spanish, "crazy", possibly from Arabic lawq³, "foolish", from ’alwaq, "stupid"
