REQUIREMENTS

 FICTION WRITING, PASSANANTE

WRITING ASSIGNMENTS:

Series of 1-2 -page assignments focusing on fiction techniques: point of view, atmosphere, characterization, beginnings, and experiment.

In-class exercises presented for mini-workshops.

 Daily writing--6 pages turned in every week.

Completion of crit sheets for workshops.

Two completed short stories of a minimum of 10 pages each. One of these stories carefully revised (10-20 pages). 

(All papers must be typed and double-spaced.)

READING:

Careful reading of all chapters in text (Janet Burroway, WRITING FICTION) and all stories in course pack.

ADDITIONAL:

Participation in class discussion of fiction techniques and stories.

Considered and constructive participation in workshops.

One required conference and one scheduled optional conference.

Attendance: no more than three unexcused absences.
