I began teaching in 1971 at Homer High School in upstate New York. Dolores Bradshaw gave me my first teaching job. Following the path of most of the young women my age in the early Seventies, I intended to teach for the next two years until my husband finished his Ph.D. and then stay home and have babies and write books. The babies are now grown, the first novel was published by the University of Nevada Press this year, and my poetry collection appeared from Limberlost Press in fall of 1999. The surprise is that I'm still teaching --I was hooked from the first moment I saw the students' faces. I'm a long-term lady.
