Discussion Questions: "The Columbia River Watershed: Caring for Creation and the Common Good" 

  1. “We recognize that damage to the watershed may have been caused by financial need and lack of knowledge more than by a lack of appreciation for the environment” is financial need really the problem to the environmental problem?
  2. Our awareness of the presence of God our entire discussion is simply respect. Could the lack of respect for our environment be the cause of the problem?
  3.  Human life is extremely important we need to take into consideration for everyone the poor the rich, minorities, etc. In order to have everyone help nature we need to help them. Is this Common good?
  4. Prophet Isaiah stated “the wolf lived with the lamb, the panther lies down with the kid, calf and lion cub feed together with a little child to lead them” this came to be known as the Vision for the future. Is this what everyone is looking for? Would this be considered the common good for all of “God’s creations”?
  5. The second half of the letter gives us ten potential solutions to the problem at hand, is this even possible? Do you think that all of these projects could succeed?  Why or why not? Is this the solution to protecting and saving nature?
