Paper Outline and Annotated Bibliography Assignment

1.  Paragraph stating the topic of your paper and likely thesis statement.

2.  Tentative Paper Outline

3..  Annotated Bibliography of at least four  "good" sources.  Annotations should include descriptive information on content as well as evaluation of the source.  For explanation of how to create an annotated bibliography, please go to

Sources likely to be "good" are:

chapter in a casebook, anthology or monograph  (or an entire book) published by an academic or quality trade publisher such as Oxford University Press, University of Chicago Press, Routledge,  Westview, etc.

article in a peer-reviewed journal  (check the peer-reviewed box if available when searching a database)

essay by key theoretician or chapter in a monograph by a key theoretician

primary source - writing by a philosopher

descriptive sources about an  issue, case law, scientific studies, etc.

technical reports that shed light on issue or case study

articles in reputable philosophical, historical, sociological, or women's studies (etc.) encyclopedias or companions

book reviews at least five pages long

4.  Photocopies or scans of book chapters, articles, etc. used for your annotated bibliography not available electronically.  Urls for electronic database sources or internet sources.
