Rabbi  Shammai Englemeyer has a site which compares a number of translations of Genesis 1-12 including the Old JPS Translation (1917), Everett Fox, Robert Alter,  Richard Elliott Friedman, and  King James at http://www.shammai.org/html/class_texts.html  He also includes a number of essays on each chapter on his site.
