2000-2008

Thousands of undergraduate students have received advertising, journalism, public relations, radio, video, mass media and communication-related degrees from the University of Idaho since these courses were first offered (check out the timeline link).

Today, our alumni are leaders in media organizations around the country and the world.

Darren Gerger (pictured below left) is a geological researcher at American Mining Corporation, a start-up company based in Osburn, Idaho. He is planning to move to Vancouver BC soon to start work on a new online GIS (Geographic Information System) service which will focus on mining and mineral information for the United States.
Melinda Giacalone works for Dominic Phillips Event Marketing, an event planning and marketing company in San Francisco. She lives in Novato, Calif.
Stephen Gibbs joined his family printing business, Digital Color Print Center, in Coeur d'Alene. Stephen is in charge of marketing and public relations
Becky Gibson is an engineering programming coordinator for UI's College of Engineering.
Megan Godwin is public relations coordinator for Drake Cooper, a full-service marketing, advertising and public relations agency in Boise.  Her clients include the United Dairymen of Idaho, Sun Valley Company and Private Residence Resorts.
Lauren Harrie works at Corporate Planning Systems, a benefits consulting firm in downtown Bellevue, Wash.
Scott High is a studio camera operator at KTRV-TV in Boise, Idaho
Amanda Kumiko Kent is teaching classical violin in Pocatello’s After School Strings program and is working over their PR goals, as well as substitute teaching and training horses. She is also working on a Animal Science degree at ISU.

Dylan Amundson is an account executive at Keokee Creative Group, a full service marketing agency and publishing company in Sandpoint, Idaho. Sandpoint and Flyfisher are two of the magazines published by Keokee.
Emily Anderson is a staff assistant for Idaho Gov. C. L. “Butch” Otter, focusing on Fish and Game, Office of Species Conservation, Parks and Recreation, Department of Lands, the Outfitters and Guides Licensing Board, and other state agencies dealing with natural resource issues.
Caryl Bauwens works as a marketing assistant with Regency Centers in Los Angeles, Calif. Regency Centers specializes in building high-end shopping centers across the country.
Heather Coddington (pictured upper left) is the communications specialist at Northwest Media Productions in Clarkston, Washington.
Hillary Flowers is a copy editor and page designer for the Coeur d’Alene Press.
Eryka (Hagen) Anson (pictured right) works at Radarworks, a full-service advertising and events agency located in downtown Seattle.  Some of her clients include T-Mobile and Microsoft Surface.

Jason Brown  is working in Los Angeles as an independent filmmaker, currently in postproduction on a hurricane Katrina documentary he shot. He is also working as a producer for a new Internet entertainment network, stimTV, free to anyone with broadband.

Mika Ushijima is an ad sales rep for a local magazine in Fukuoka City, Japan. The magazine, World Joint Club gives overseas information to readers, so the main clients are travel agencies and air companies. She is also an advisor for foreign workers at the Fukuoka Labor Bereau, where she works as a consecutive interpreter between foreign workers who have troubles at their workplace.

She edits Steelhead hockey highlights to music as openers for display on the video board before each game. She also produces training videos for the Centre and meets with special events clients to produce videos for their shows at the Centre. In her spare time, Devin is teaching herself the art of 3-D animation.

JD Hanks is in Memphis Tennessee and works as an on-air personality at Q107.5, the Number One Hit Music Station, on the weekends. He also has a full-time position as production engineer for
Flinn Broadcasting.

lives in Sacramento, California and is the administrative assistant at Echostar, the parent company of Dish Network. Her job is to help coordinate projects/events, put together presentations for company meetings, write reports, create charts and graphs, and gathering and interpreting information.

Zac Sexton (pictured left with his fishing buddy and best friend Mojo)
has accepted a job as the Hunter and Angler Recruitment Coordinator for the Wyoming Game and Fish Department in Jan. of '08, based in the Cheyenne office with state-wide duties. He is enjoying teaching archery and outdoor skills to educators and kids of Wyoming. He has signed a book contract with Headwater Books in New Cumberland, Penn. for his book: An Angler's Photo-Illustrated Guide to Cutthroat Trout (working title). He is diligently trying to catch fish and capture jaw-dropping photos when not trying to recruit people to fish, before his deadline at the end of Oct. '08. He also continues as the President of the Cuttie-thon Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to funding research to save Cutthroat trout and to find a cure for diabetes. This year Zac is excited to announce a partnership with Wyoming Trout Unlimited, who will be helping with publicity and fund-raising. They will also be forming a relay team to compete in this year's Cuttie-thon, a fly-fishing marathon, to be held on the Greys River in western Wyo., Aug. 9-10, 2008. This will be the fourth 26-plus mile event Zac will have completed.
