Dean is a professor of design and Department Chair at the University of Idaho and is a freelance professional scenic

and lighting designer.   A recipient of the Idaho Commission on the Arts Fellowship in the Performing Arts for his design work in 2000, his professional credits are regional, national, and international in scope.   His design credits include work at the Colorado Shakespeare Festival, Tacoma Actors Guild, Santa Barbara Repertory Theatre, Pacific Art Center, Idaho Shakespeare Festival, Idaho Repertory Theatre, Idaho Theatre for Youth, Spokane InterPlayers, Festival Dance and Performing Arts, and Showtime.   Last year he designed the scenery and lighting for the American University of Cairo’s production of Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead while in residency in Egypt.   His most recent works have been the scenic designs for Lend Me a Tenor, Grace and Glorie, I Love You You’re Perfect Now Change, No Fish in the House, and the lighting designs for the New Works Festival, Elvis People, and The Summer of 42with the Idaho Repertory Theatre and University of Idaho.
