About the Eta Chi Chapter

Eta Chi is based at the University of Idaho in Moscow, and is currently working on several projects.

We at Eta Chi are committed to service, particularly that which promotes literacy. We sponsor a local writing partnership with a third-grade class in Moscow, and we are making books on tape (primarily dramatic works) for use by the elderly.  On campus, we are sponsoring the second year of our "Books and a Buck" campaign--a book drive effort to help needy secondary-level libraries increase their holdings.  We have adopted two high schools in Idaho and one in Louisiana.  We hope our efforts here will eventually become a model for other Sigma Tau Delta chapters in a national effort to help out our challenged secondary education system.  We have literary film nights, sponsor lectures by faculty and students, and other events, like poetry slams, that promote the love of words. Our poetry slams occur every third Saturday of the month at Mikey's in downtown Moscow.  We are especially good at having fun while we are involved in these activities (see our photo album).  The Freshman/Transfer Tea, to be held this year in the Spring because of contruction on campus, welcomes our new freshman and tranfer majors, who are given honor society mentors to advise them during the year.  The Graduation Breakfast in the Spring honors those who will be leaving the university.   At the breakfast, we also honor the Outstanding Faculty Member of the Year, who is selected by the graduating seniors, and given a plaque and gift certificate for purchases at Bookpeople.  This year, we add two new events, to be held annually, to our schedule.  They are The Tales for Tots new book drive, which gathers books for the children of the young mothers enrolled in the Even Start literacy program, and the Alumni Lecture, where we invite an alumnus to campus to give a lecture.  On the whole, a busy year for all of us, and we hope that you will offer us suggestions about how we can better serve you.

We also look forward to Professor Gary Williams' inaugural lecture in our Outstanding Faculty Lecture series, "My Last Lecture."

For those of your browsing our page from outside the university, we hope that you get in touch with us if you have some ideas for service or social activities.
