| About Sigma Tau Delta Pledge & Motto In 1924, Dr. Judson Q. Owen at Dakota Wesleyan College decided to found a society whose purpose was to recognize "undergraduates, graduates, and scholars in academia as well as professional writers who have recognized accomplishments in linguistic or literary realms of the English language." Now, seventy-five years later, Sigma Tau Delta has over [blank] chapters and [blank] members worldwide. The motto of STD is "Sincerity, Truth, Design." Its colors are cardinal and black, and its symbol is the rose. The objectives of the society are as follows: "Sigma Tau Delta members are honor students. They are expected to have superior creative talent and to have an interest in literature and language beyond the classroom. The programs should provide them the stimulation of a community of others who have similar talents and interests. They should encourage creative writing. They should provide cultural and intellectual enlightenment." Sigma Tau Delta is, in short, an organization designed to create culturally defined individuals who are brilliant and capable. We also intend to have fun along the way. The membership of Sigma Tau Delta is dedicated to service at the department, university, and community levels. If you have ideas about how we can best serve these constituencies, please feel free to Contact us. Remember, too, that our activities are sponsored for the benefit of everyone. We hope you attend our activities, get to know us, and benefit from our projects.
