Sigma Tau Delta
Meeting Minutes from Wednesday, Sept. 20th, 2000


1. Picnic: Sunday, Sept. 24th, @ 2, @Robinson Park
Freshman contacts: Molly has lists of Freshmen to contact. Be friendly and try to talk to new Freshman/Transfer students at the picnic.
Nametags--Brandy will be bringing nametags to faciliate everyone getting to know each other.
Game Equipment: Christina will be getting volleyballs and other
    equipment from campus rec.
Set-up time: 1:00 PM
Music: The band is possibly not coming--Brandy will bring a stereo and music just in case.
Food:
Kerry-Meat
Molly-buns
Summer-utensils
Kristina: veggies, condiments
Brandy: drinks
Everyone else: bring a side dish, chips, or a dessert
T-shirts: We will be selling them at the bbq. They will be buy one-get one free because we have lots of 1998 t-shirts. Also, push the t-shirts in your classes. Shawn will be getting a copy of the designs in the STD box.

2. Poetry Slam-Thurs. September 28 @ 7:00

We need posters on campus and downtown. Sarah will be making posters and Summer will distribute them.

3. Bad Poetry Slam, Oct 13th @ 7:00
Think about bad prizes to bring.

4. E-Bay Update
Christina has looked into prices, but hasn't found anything definite. Some Ray Bradbury books were sellling for $250, but for early editions. For the Jamacia Kincade, we probably can't get more than $25-30.

Minutes, October 19, 2000

Hi everyone, here's this weeks meeting minutes--

1.  Books and a Buck--Summer's in charge and will be talking to everyone about what we need to do.

2.  Convention and Submission Update: 

Start thinking about papers to submit and writing them because next month we'll be having a editing session.  Look for theme and length specifications on the web site.

3.  T-Shirt Sales:
Sell lots of T-shirts because we need lots of money!

4.  Other Fund-Raising--

**Christina and John will be co-chairing a fundraising cart in front of Memorial Gym.

5.  Halloween Party:  Saturday the 28th 

Summer will be making flyers and putting them in the box for us to post.  

6.  The Red Neck Poetry Reading will be November 4th at 6 PM.  

7.  We will also be having a poetry slam at 7:30 (sign-up at 7:00) on either November 8 or 15.   

        Prizes--

            1.  $25 gift certificate to Bookpeople

            2.  journal

. CONVENTION AND SUBMISSION UPDATE:
> Members need to bring their writing samples to the next meeting
>(November 15) so they may have their papers edited.  People also ned to
>begin thinking about who we'd like to nominate for scholarships.

>2. RED NECK POETRY READING:
> The Red Neck poetry reading will take place at Matt and Rex's
>house.  The address is: 422 N. Washington (the blue house right behind the
>Mark IV).  The reading will be November 4th at 6 pm.  Sarah and Summer
>will take care of the advertising.  We need to bring theme related snacks,
>such as cheese whiz. There will also be theme-related decor.  If anyone

Minutes for Wednesday, November 15th

>1.  Because of scheduling conflicts, the poetry slam at Mikey's this Sat.
is cancelled.  However, from now on we will be having a slam the third
saturday of every month, so you will have a chance to read your poetry soon!

>2.  Book Plates:
>
>Send your ideas for book plate pictures to Rachel Tompkins at either
venus_mantrap@hotmail.com or tompk932@uidaho.edu.  You can send her the web
address  where the image is located or the image itself.  We are planning to
sell these at both the bookstore and the convention, so we need lots of
ideas, specifically pictures relating to prominent British or American
writers.

>3. Tales for Tots

>So far Hastings, Bookpeople, and UI Bookstore have all agreed to help with
this project.  Melissa is working on getting posters to advertise for this
and I am getting some boxes together to put the books in so that we can get
these in the stores before Thanksgiving.

>Due to an extremely busy schedule, our historian needed to resign.  If you
or anyone you know is interested, please contact Brandy.

>5.  Distinguished Alumni Lecture
>
>We will be starting a Distinguished Alumni Lecture Series in the Spring
beginning with Laura Gruber's Dad (?) who is a professor at Emory (?)
University. One idea was to combine this with the Freshman/Transfer Tea and
Membership Drive.  In the future, we would like to invite more English
alumni to give lectures and enlist the help of the Alumni Association.

quickly approaching!  You need to have your papers in by Dec. 15.

Minutes, November 29, 2000

Hi everyone, here are the minutes for the Wednesday, November 29th.

1.  Tales for Tots
        A.  Collection:  All the collection boxes are now in the stores.
Summer is working on publicity.  Someone will be going by once a week to
check the boxes at each store.  We will have a gift-wrapping party December
20th at 5:30 at Brandy's house.

2.  Poetry Slam:
        This month's will be Sat. at December 16th.   Sign-up will be at 7
and the Slam will start at 7:30.  There will be prizes given to the best
poems.
        1st place:  Gift certificate to Book People for $25
        2nd place:  T-shirt
        3rd place:  journal

3.  Book plates:  Give your ideas to Rachel!

4.  Books and a Book:
        Summer has gotten some books for various living groups and will be
putting a box in the bookstore for old textbooks.  She also has a box in the
history and foreign language departments.

5.  We still need a historian!

6.  Check out the website.  Shawn has done a great job updating it.

7.  Please have your essays done by Wednesday, Dec. 6.  We will be having a
revision party that night at 5:30 in the Academic Programs Conference Room
at the Commons.

8.  Our next meeting will be December 13th at 5:30 in the TAAC conference
room.


Minutes, December 13, 2000

Hi everyone!

Here are the meeting minutes for Wed., December 13:

1.  Tales for Tots:
        Collection--Several of us will be meeting at the Tower Plaza on
Wednesday, December 20th at 4:30 to go collect books for the wrapping party.
The party will be held at Brandy's house the same night at 5:30.  Her
address is 1425 S. Mountainview, Apt. A4.  Everyone is welcome to come help
us wrap the books.  If you do come, please bring a few excess Christmas
cards so that we can write Thank you's to those who have helped us this
semester.

        Distribution:  Evenstart will be helping us with distribution.

2.  The Poetry Slam will be held this Saturday at Mikey's.  Sign up starts
at 7:00, and the slam will begin at 7:30.  Prizes given will be a gift
certificate to BP for $25, one of t-shirts, or a journal.  We have
advertised pretty heavily for this one, so hopefully we'll get a good
attendance.  Don't forget to bring a $1 and a can of food or $2 if you plan
to read your poetry.

3.  We are selling book plates at the price of $7 for twenty plates.  Forms
will be in the English Dept. boxes soon.

4.  Books and a Buck is still going very well.  Summer has received many
books from the history dept.

5.  Brandy thought it would be a good idea to create a section of our
webpage with pictures of members doing their other activities, such as
teaching, playing in marching band, etc.  If you have any pictures, please
bring them to the next meeting.

6,  Next Semester:

            Next semester we are trying to have the freshman transfer tea as
well as a membership drive.  Please start thinking about ideas for these
activities.
