Induction
1998
Ah, yes, the photo album reaffirms why we are
interested in words; note, as you browse the pictures, how we managed to forget to take a
group picture of all the inductees, who, as far as these pictures might indicate, are
merely our "imaginary friends." Hopefully, we will get better at the
"picture thang" as time proceeds. We can only hope. We begin,
however, with Professor Gary Williams presenting the Leishmann Award, the department's
highest honor, to Ben Colborn, who now works (for a nice salary indeed) for MicroSun
Systems. Way to go, Ben!

Erin Ogden was kind enough to present a reading of her
poetry at the induction. By the way, the induction took place at the Pritchard Art
Gallery. Notice the similarity between the fine paintings on the wall and our
photographs...

Gordon Thomas receives a plaque in appreciation for
his years of guidance; Go, Gordon, go. Gordon, by the way, takes the best pictures
in the department--digital, no less, so we plan to keep him busy in the future.
Heather Lee, 1997-8 president of Eta Chi, stands between her two sponsors, and thinks
about how wonderful her new job at Anderson Consulting will be.

Now Gordon Thomas and Kerry McKeever get wine for their
service to Eta Chi. That's the good news. The bad news is that it is an
excellant home brew that will be ready just about the time they both succumb to old
age...it was planned that way, they think... Melissa Cowley, Eta Chi president-elect,
looks like she is trying to stab both of our sponsors. More credit to our talented
photographer, who shall remain nameless. Heather looks pretty darned happy about it,
too.
