Graduation
Breakfast 1998
Once again, it is Spring in Moscow, Idaho, and
there is no lovelier place on the planet. And, once again, we gather to honor the
graduating seniors. Gordon Thomas, Director of the Writing Program, and Dene Thomas,
Vice-Provost of the university and faculty member in English, have once again offered
their home to us. Some have commented that we seem to come up with excuses to get
together over food; well, perhaps that's so, but we certainly have a good time doing so!
Note here the relish with which our esteemed faculty member and Director of the
Honors Program, Stephan Flores, leads the attack! Amazed, Linda Adams, the spouse of
our Chair Douglas Q. Adams, looks on.

Meanwhile, out on the deck, Rick Feherenbacher
contemplates a summer without grading papers (oops, you forgot you're teaching summer
school!).

Here, we practice the skills mastered by most
English majors: talking, talking, and more talking while eating.

Back inside, Chair Adams wonders what this
goofy bunch is all about; Linda looks pretty puzzled, too.

The always stylish Dr. Sheila O'Brien is playing "zen
wanna be a rock star," while our ever willing-to-learn Kate practices alongside.
Kate, by the way, was instrumental in making the brunch a success, but more about
that later.

Dene Thomas, our lovely host, presides at
the post food "My God, we can't budge" slug fest.

Wow, Stephan can sure get intense; here he's
yakking it up with Trish Thomas. Nothing like a sugar high to stimulate
conversation.

"So, Ben, like, we're outta here."
"So, like Heather, we have real jobs, we're stars, sister-woman!"

"You'd think I drank enough coffee
during the week," but here I am, going stark raving crazy on the weekend, too."

Remember Kate? Well, she made this Kodak
moment possible by making sure that her mother, Professor Pat Riley, got to the gig on
time in order to be named Outstanding Faculty Member of the Year! She definitely was
surprised. Kate has been blessed by the Muse of Eta Chi; she has a great teaching
job in Arizona.

Whoa! Not only a plaque but a
gift certificate to Bookpeople!

Pat gives a big hug to Vice-President
Melissa Cowley (Heather, our president, is out of range, being a star with Ben Colburn and
contemplating the zillions she will make at Anderson Consulting.

Hot dang! A group picture! And
happy campers all.
