New students:  Note that the Scholarships Committee will have access to your application materials:  transcripts, letters of recommendation, writing sample, and any further information from teaching assistant applications.

Returning students:  your application will be evaluated mainly on the basis of your work during the past year.  You may want to provide a new writing sample or have an additional letter of recommendation sent by any professor with whom you have worked during the past year.

Applicants for NIXON Scholarships:  Attach a statement,  one-page maximum, describing your career goals in relation to teaching and the ways in which you have been preparing yourself to teach.  (Experience as a TA is relevant; so is tutoring, any activities that require teaching skills, and courses that teach such skills.) 

Applicants for SAUVE Scholarships:  Attach a statement that specifies your expenses  beyond normal expenses for a single student.  These may relate to family, medical conditions, debts, etc.  Give estimated dollar amounts. 

Applicants for HOGUE Scholarships:  Attach a statement, one page maximum, giving evidence of your “literary talent and creativity [and] potential to succeed as a professional writer of some kind after graduation.”
