Admissions Procedures for the M.F.A. Program

Students seeking the degree of Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing must submit the following materials:

  • To the College of Graduate Studies Admission Office (University of Idaho, Moscow, ID 83844-3019). Official transcripts covering all college/university work done, and the admissions form sent out by the Graduate College. You can apply on-line at http://www.uidaho.edu/admissions/gradapp.html.

  • To the English Department Director of Graduate Studies (Gary Williams, Department of English, Moscow, ID 83844-1102). Three letters of recommendation sent directly by the writers, preferably from professors who can speak to the student’s aptitude for graduate study and advanced creative writing.

  • A writing sample, preferably a portfolio of creative writing, ten pages of poetry or 20 pages of prose. Scores of the Graduate Record Exam are optional; in general, the GRE exam is not a major indicator of success in the MFA program.
