Admissions Procedures for the M.A. Programs

Students seeking the degree of Master of Arts, Master of Arts in Teaching, or Master of Arts in Teaching English As a Second Language must submit the following materials:

  • To the College of Graduate Studies Admission Office (University of Idaho, Moscow, ID 83844-3019). Official transcripts covering all college/university work completed, and the admissions form sent out by the Graduate College. You can apply on-line at http://www.uidaho.edu/admissions/gradapp.html.
  • To the English Department Director of Graduate Studies (Gary Williams, Department of English, University of Idaho, Moscow, ID 83844-1102). Three letters of recommendation sent directly by the writers, preferably from professors who can speak to your aptitude for graduate study. A writing sample, preferably an analytical essay of 7-10 pages dealing with a literary or linguistic subject. You may also send scores for the general and literature subject tests of the Graduate Record Exam; though not required, students with marginal records are especially advised to take these tests.
