The COMPASS test is not required, but you can use a
good score on the COMPASS test to better your placement into
English 101 or 102. In other words, certain COMPASS scores can
either exempt you from English 090 (if you were otherwise required to
take it) or give you advanced placement
credit for English 101. A score of 68 to 94 on the COMPASS test
places you in English 101; a score of 95 to 99 places you in English
102.
Besides the COMPASS test, there are other methods by
which you can better your initial placement into either English 090
or 101.
You cannot exempt yourself from English 102 by any score
on the COMPASS test.
If you wish to take the
Writing Skills Placement Test of
COMPASS, go to the Student Counseling and
Testing Center (located in the
Continuing
Education Building, Room 306) or call 208-885-6716 to reserve a time to
take the test. You should
allow 30 to 45 minutes to take this test. The results are given immediately.
The test is given on any normal working day.
