Attendance Policy for English 090, 101, and 102

English 090, 101, and 102 are not correspondence courses.  Your regular attendance is one of the requirements of all these courses.  You are allowed three additional absences during the semester for a MWF class and two absences for a TTh class--these would be for unexcused absences.  Any more absences can adversely affect your grade.  If you have more than six absences for a class that meets three times a week (usually MWF) or four absences for a course that meets twice a week, you will fail the course.  Your grade in the course will be an F, not an N.

You may be excused from classes for the following reasons:

bulletWhen participating in (not merely attending) university athletic events.  (You need to be a university athlete or a member of the band in order to be granted such an excuse).
bulletWhen participating in required field trips for other classes.
bulletWhen you are very sick and have been told by a doctor that you must stay home (or if you are confined to the hospital)

In the first two cases, you should show your instructor an excuse in advance from the university department requiring your absence.  When you are sick, you should show the instructor your excuse when you return to class and you should make an attempt to contact your instructor during the time that you are sick.
