Advanced
Placement:
Note that simply enrolling in an advanced
placement English class will not earn you credit unless you are able to
perform well on the advanced placement exam.
At the UI, we use the ACT English and the SAT Verbal
scores as one method of assigning “advanced placement credit” (or “AP
credit”). Credit granted for English 101 from an SAT, ACT or COMPASS
score will appear on your transcript after you have successfully passed
English 102. These credits are recorded as UI credit.
You can also earn advanced placement credit for English
101 or 102 by scoring the minimum indicated for one of the tests listed
below. Credit that you receive by this method is recorded as transfer
credit on your transcript. This credit appears on your transcript soon
after you begin taking classes at UI. The Registrar's Office must
receive official notification of your test scores in order for you to be
granted this credit:

A score in the range of 68-94 on the COMPASS test will
allow you to take English 101, but it does not give you any advanced
placement credit. For
further information, contact the Registrar’s Advanced
Placement Page and Student Counseling Center
(208-885-6716).
Your grade in a course for which you received advanced
placement credit appears on
your transcript as a P and does not affect your GPA. If you transfer to another institution, that new school may not
accept courses that you earned at UI through AP credit.
