1) Introductions

Introduce yourselves to each other and take a minute to learn each other's names.

Find at least one positive thing that everyone in the group has in common, such as: you all like football or soccer, or you all like the same movie, or you're all from Boise, or you'll all Business majors, or you all like frying little insects with magnifying glasses, or whatever.

Note, however:

a) the thing must be "positive": something you all like or have in common that is not negative, so it can't be you all hate Tom, or hate Candide, or don't like Mondays etc.

b) the thing cannot be self evident: so it can't be "we're all in this class, all in this group, all at UI, all too stupid to think of something more interesting etc.

c) I may quiz you on your group members names at any point during the semester.

2) Group Description Template

Fill out this template and email it to Tom  as an email, not an attachment.  In the Subject Line of the email, write "Group Description, English ### (Class Number and  Sec. #)".  He'll post it on our webpage.

Who is pretty bad at editing?

Who likes to or is willing to take notes and/or type stuff when working in groups, or: who always has a laptop in class?

Who usually takes a leadership role when working in groups?

Who never speaks up when working in groups, and what other skill will this person or these people exercise to make up for being so silent?

What is the penalty for someone in your group who lets you down (such as: doesn't show up for meeting, doesn't email his or her portion of the assignment, doesn't shower regularly etc.)?
