"Service learning is a form of experiential education in which students
engage in activities that address human and community needs (defined by the
community) together with structured opportunities intentionally designed to
promote student learning and development. Reflection and reciprocity are key
concepts of service-learning." Barbara Jacoby, 1996. This class gives you the opportunity to do Service
Learning. If you choose this
option, a Service Learning
designation will appear on your transcript. Service Learning credit requires
approximately 15-20 hours of work. Ms. Ann McCormack, the Nez Perce Tribe's
Director of Economic Development, will visit the class to solicit help for a
tribal film festival project. Alternatively, you may tutor on the Coeur
d'Alene Reservation through the Service Learning Office. Please see me if you
are interested in working on these projects. As part of your Service Learning experience you'll write a
Reflective Essay illustrating
what meaning you gained from the experience as connected to our course. More details to come . . . |
