Service Learning Component (Optional)
"Service learning is a form of experiential education in which students
engage in activities that address human and community needs (defined by the
community) together with structured opportunities intentionally designed to
promote student learning and development. Reflection and reciprocity are key
concepts of service-learning."
Barbara Jacoby, 1996.
This class gives you the opportunity to do Service
Learning by assisting in the UI Tutxinmipu Pow Wow, the UI Jazz Festival,
or tutoring students on the Coeur d'Alene Reservation. Students who participate will produce a
Reflective essay illustrating what
meaning they gained from the experience as connected to our course. If you
participate in the SL component of the course your Final Project Paper will be
4-6 pages in length, rather than 8-10 pages. Please speak to me if you are
interested.
