Class Policies Read all polices carefully. Students are responsible for knowing and following these policies, particularly, the deadline and late work policies.

1.1 Attendance/Participation I promise not to inflict death by Power Point or fail to teach you something worthy of your attendance. In return, I ask that you reguarly attend class and, when in class, to be engaged with the course.

If you are sick, stay home.  If you have a genuine emergency requiring you to be absent, then take care of it.  You do not need to email me if you are absent or need to be absent, but you are responsible for knowing all material covered in class.

Participation is a graded component of the course (5%).  This grade will be based on your level of engagement during in-class reviews, exercises, and successfully passing unannounced quizzes (graded pass/fail).   If you miss class (for whatever reason), you cannot receive credit for participation assignments, including quizzes.
1.2 Computer Check  Students are responsible for doing the Blackboard computer check to set up their browser.  You are also strongly advised to use the practice assignment link in the Blackboard Drop Box prior to submitting an assignment for grading.  If you experience technical problems, the practice link has information on what to do.
1.3 English Proficiency English 102 or equivalent is a prerequisite of this course.   Students are expected to enter the course with a proficient level of skills in writing based on having completed the prerequisite.  Proficiency is defined in this course as having attained the goals of English 102 at a passing level or above.  Descriptions of these goals can be found here: Goals of English 102.
1.4 Grades You must complete all assignments to be eligible for a course grade.
1.5 Deadlines /Late Work Students are expected to submit their work by the time/date specified on the course calendar.  If you miss a deadline, you may submit the assignment late to Blackboard up to 24 hours after a deadline has passed.  If you fail to submit an assignment within 24 hours of the deadline, you will fail the course.

Late submissions will not be eligible for a grade higher than C minus.  Note: it does not matter if your assignment is submitted 1 minute or 23 hours and 59 minutes passed the deadline, the late policy will apply.

It is important to consider the technology you are using when submitting assignments and allow time to upload the document file.   Experiencing  personal technology problems when submitting assignments will not be grounds for a waiver of the late policy.

Personal technology problems include difficulty uploading an assignment because you are working too close to the deadline, and/or unreliable internet connections or blackouts that are not systems wide.

I strongly recommend that you have a back up plan in case your residence hall, apartment building, favorite wireless internet cafe, etc. is not working well at the time you are trying to upload a document.
1.6 Requesting Reviews To request a review of your writing, send your assignment draft as an email attachment.  Please explain the problem(s) you are having with writing the assignment and ask specific questions.   Reviews are limited to one per assignment.
1.7 Software All assignments must be composed in Word, OSS, or converted to a PDF file before submission.
