SPECIFIC CRITERIA FOR EVALUATION
PERSONAL AND EXPLORATORY
WRITING, ENGLISH 208 - 04, PASSANANTE
“A” papers will be excellent, not merely good,
in every criterion.
“B” papers will be good in nearly every criterion.
”C” papers will be adequate/”average” in nearly every
criterion.
“D” papers will have serious inadequacies in at least
three of the criteria.
“F” papers will have serious inadequacies in at least
four of the criteria.
All papers are to be typed, double-spaced, names in
upper right corner, word count at the top of the page under your name.
15 percent--Short Assignments/ Class Participation
25 percent--Essay #1 (revised grade replaces first
graded draft)
30 percent--Essay #2
30 percent--Essay #3
There will be no final exam.
Criteria for Evaluating All Final Draft Assignments:
Complexity of thought
Development
Specificity of detail in all description, including action
Coherence
Effective use of research
Effective use of character development techniques, including dialogue
Precision and originality of language
Correctness in syntax, spelling, usage, and punctuation
