GENERAL HEADING FORMAT [A level] (use a larger font than the rest of the text)

 Use format to differentiate heading levels.

 HEADING [B level] (Use BOLD same size font as the rest of the text)

 Text . . . .

Do not indent the text except to start paragraphs.

 Subheading [C level] (Use BOLD same size font as the rest of the text)

    Text . . . .

Do not indent the text except to start paragraphs.

Sub-heading [D level] (indent this so it's on the paragraph level) (Use BOLD same size font as the rest of the text)

     Text . . .          

Do not indent the text except to start paragraphs.

           1.0  ENGINEERING / COMPUTER DOCUMENTATION HEADING FORMAT (use a larger font than the rest of the text)

 Using numbers with headings is typical in engineering and computer documents.

1.1  HEADING (Use BOLD same size font as the rest of the text)

            Text . . . .

Do not indent the text. 

  1.1.1  Subheading   (Use BOLD same size font as the rest of the text)

Text . . . .

Indent for the beginning of the paragraph, but otherwise do not indent the text. 

 1.1.1.1 Sub-subheading (indent this so it's on the paragraph level) (Use BOLD same size font as the rest of the text)

Text . . .

Indent for the beginning of each paragraph, but do not indent the text.

 

Note:
You can use different size fonts to help differentiate between the heading levels:
        (Ex:  Main heading = size 14 font; other headings = size 12 font or the size of the regular text's font.)
