Repertoire requirements for 114
1st and 2nd semester

Fall 2008

Technical: A Tune A Day Bk 1 & 2 (as needed) Hendrickson Bk 1, Possible in Second Semester Hendrickson Bk 2 .

Scale requirement: Chromatic (any speed with proper fingerings), First 3 Flat and first 3 Sharp major scales. (any speed with proper fingerings)

Solo Material: Baermann, Etude in b Flat from Solos for the Clarinet Player, G. Schirmer Bassi, Lamento from Rubank Book of Clarinet Solos (Intermediate), Rubank Hovey & Leonard, Gypsy Moods from Classic Festival Solos for Clarinet, CPP/Belwin Mozart, Alleluja from Rubank Book of Clarinet Solos, Rubank

Technical requirements for 115, (required for music majors as entering students whom do not have their Major Scales and arpeggios memorized.) Two semester grace period. Exam by jury. If not passed you will not be able to continue as a music major. This is a School of Music requirement.

Continuation of Mus A 114 for 3rd semester will follow 124 First semester.

 

Repertoire requirements for 124 for
1st, 2nd,3rd and 4th (junior standing, UDS)

Technical: Baermann Bk 3 (Snavely ed., Kendor press or Hite, International), Hendrickson BK 2, Bona, Rhythmical Articulation. Rose etudes Bk 1 and Bk 2, Etudes Klose Complete Method , Studies Opperman, Bk 1 Langenus Bk 3 or any other material that could be appropriate to improving the player’s ability (Chosen by the Clarinet Professor)

Scale requirement: All Major and minor scales and arpeggios memorized played in eight notes, quarter note equals 132. Exam by woodwind jury.

Solo Works: Hindemith, Sonata, Bernstein, Sonata, Mozart, Alleluja from Rubank Book of Clarinet Solos, Rubank, Mozart Concerto (in A or B Flat), K 622 1st Second and 3rd Movement Finzi, Five Bagatelles, Rabaud, Solo De Concours,Weber, Concertino and Concerto #2 and other works of like difficulty from the State Solo List or published in the International Clarinet Journal.

 

Repertoire requirements for 134 for
1st, 2nd,3rd and 4th Semester (Leading to UDS)

Technical: Baermann BK3 (Snavely), Alfred Uhl 24 Etudes, Alan Seagal, Twentieth Century Etudes or any other etudes or study material, chosen by the Clarinet Professor and published on Luyben’s catalogue or the ICS journal.

Scales Requirement: All Major and Minor Scales and arpeggios memorized played in eighth notes at 164 for the Quarter note.

Solo Works: Brahms, Sonata No.1 or No. 2 Mozart Concerto k 622 Complete, Stamitz Concerto No.3 or other works assigned.


UDS Upper division requirements for 324 and 334

Recital required

Technical: Baermann BK 3 (Snavely) Alfred Uhl Bk 2, Gabucci 60 Divertimenti, 30 Caprices, Cavallini, Etudes De Rhythme, Bitsch, Bozza, Etudes De Mecanisme

Scale Requirement: Whole tone, Major Minor all forms. Modes memorized. Thirds in Opperman, Klose (complete) and Langenus

Solo Works: Copland, Concerto Lutoslawski, Danse Preludes, Milhaud, Sonatine, Mozart Clarinet Quintet, Wagner Adagio, Muczynski Time Pieces, Saint-Saens Sonata op. 167, and Schubert Shepherd on the Rock
