DESCRIPTION:

The third annual joint Idaho-Washington regional human rights conference for the Inland Pacific Northwest will be in Moscow, Idaho April 12th, 13th and 14th. It is called "FINDING THE CENTER, An Action Oriented Human Rights Conference."  This is truly a remarkable, third annual, but first of its kind, conference for the region.  This conference is specifically designed to teach techniques, tools, and skills to deal with some of the social ills that plague our communities.

“Finding the Center” includes three days of workshops, keynote speakers and performances and provides students an opportunity this spring to earn ONE workshop credit toward the Certificate in Diversity and Stratification.  All events will take place on the University of Idaho campus.

Among this years presenters are: (from: http://www.webs.uidaho.edu/ftc/)

Randie S. Gottlieb Ed. D (Opening Keynote) - the founder of UNITYWORKS LLC and co-founder of the Mona Foundation.  She received her Master’s degree in educational administration from Harvard University and her Ed. D. from Boston University in instructional design.

Balbir Mathur - the founder of “Trees for Life” which has helped more than 2.5 million people plant more than 30 million trees in developing countries since its inception in 1984

Reverend John L. Selders Jr. - the founding organizing pastor of Amistad United Church of Christ in Hartford Connecticut, Care coordinator of Zezzo house (an 18 unit housing project) and the Lead Principal for the Human Connection Project

Anna Boluda – is a journalist, filmmaker and Fullbright scholar who has worked as a television reporter, a producer and in public relations.  Her award winning film “Queer Spawn” (which will be screened during the plenary session) is an example of her message of the accessibility in our everyday lives of an opportunity to engage our own families as agents of change.

REQUIREMENTS:

To earn one credit towards the certificate, students must register for the conference AND register for the workshop credit PRIOR to attending the conference.  Students must receive permission for the workshop credit from the instructor, John Mihelich.
