The second annual joint
Idaho-Washington regional human rights conference for the Inland Pacific
Northwest will be in Moscow, Idaho March 24th, 25th and 26th. It is called
"FINDING THE CENTER, An Action Oriented Human Rights Conference". This is
truly a remarkable, second annual, but first of its kind, conference for the
region. This conference is specifically designed to teach techniques,
tools, and skills, to deal with some of the social ills that plague our
communities.
Among this years
presenters are:
Paul
Wesselman, founder and CEO of Stone Soup Seminars, Inc.
Corey Saylor, Governmental Relations
Director for the Council on American-Islamic Relations
The
National Coalition Building Institute (NCBI)
Michael Chin, Moscow High Graduate, Gonzaga
Law Student and member Washington State Human Rights Commission
Living Voices Inc. artist/actress Rose Cano
who will present “Native Vision – the experiences of Native Americans in the
1930s and 1940’s”
This conference is
co-sponsored this year by the University of Idaho DIGG grant, Washington
State University’s office of Equity and Diversity, the City of Moscow, ID,
the City of Pullman, WA, the Latah County Human Rights Task Force, CHEER
(the Center for Health, Education and Economic Resources) and the YWCA of
WSU.
REQUIREMENTS:
Finding the
Center includes three days of workshops, keynote speakers and performances
and provides students an opportunity this spring to earn ONE workshop credit
toward the Certificate in Diversity and Stratification. All events will
take place on the University of Idaho campus. The “earlybird” registration
fee for the conference is $100 dollars (if registered by March 1) and the
regular fee is $125 (after March 1).
To earn one
credit towards the certificate, students must register for the conference
and pay the fee AND register for the workshop credit PRIOR to attending the
conference and email John Mihelich informing him of the student’s
participation. Students must then attend the full conference. After
attending, students are required to write a brief synopsis of each “workshop
track” attended AND a two-page (single-spaced) summary essay explaining what
they learned from the overall conference experience and how the experience
contributed to their diversity education. The credit is graded based on
attendance and the quality of the written submissions. To view the
