SOC 403 WS: Diversity Training Series

CRN: 28932

INSTRUCTORS:

Andy Neukranz-Butler, Human rights Compliance Officer, Francisco Salinas, Director Multicultural Affairs, & John Mihelich.

DESCRIPTION:

This one credit sociology workshop is developed in collaboration with Human Resource Development and the Human Rights Compliance Office at the University of Idaho and draws from the Diversity Training Certificate Series offered through Human Resources at the University of Idaho.  The workshop explores important topics dealing with diversity in the workplace and on campus designed to “help the UI community become familiar with diversity issues and to increase diversity awareness among faculty and staff.”  Students seeking this workshop credit will attend five sessions of training offered through Human Resources and an eight-hour in-depth Saturday Session (Nov 6th) with Andy Neukranz-Butler and Francisco Salinas.

NOTE: the “Diversity Training Certificate” offered by HR is not to be confused with the “Certificate in Diversity and Stratification” offered through the Department of Sociology, Anthropology and Justice Studies. The latter is a 12 credit academic program.  Fulfilling the requirements of this workshop, which includes 8 hours of training (Saturday Session) in addition to the requirements for the HR certificate, fulfills one workshop credit toward the Certificate in Diversity and Stratification.

The workshop can be used for upper division sociology elective credits and/or for the applied component of the Diversity & Stratification certificate.

Further session descriptions are posted below.

REQUIREMENTS:

Full attendance is required and other requirements will be discussed during the workshop.

Any questions about this workshop should be directed to John Mihelich (jmihelic@uidaho.edu) or Any Neukranz-Butler (anbutler@uidaho.edu)
