In June 2008, Oregon State University Press agreed to publish my book manuscript, "The Environmental Justice: William O. Douglas and American Conservation." It is currently planned for release in Spring 2009. A descriptive table of contents can be found here. In short, the book demonstrates the way this Supreme Court justice became a public intellectual for conservation, educating the public about ecological threats, the political process, and the cultural need for wilderness and other environmental protections. Furthermore, it reveals the contours of modern conservation politics and how Douglas advanced them and discovered both the strength and limits of public activism.

In August 2007, ABC-CLIO published my book, United States West Coast: An Environmental History, as part of its Nature and Human Societies series edited by Mark Stoll. A table of contents, of sorts, can be found here.

I am in the process of editing a volume on Idaho history and culture. I conceive of the book as an effort at synthesis and prospectus. Authors are creatively synthesizing the existing scholarship, including their own research, and considering ways Idaho’s history and culture fits with other regions, traditions, and historiographies. I have received several essays and more are forthcoming. A project with this many scholars involved is somewhat unpredictable, but I anticipate submitting the entire book in Winter 2008-09.
