Celluloid Indian Group Project

Project Assignment
Create a
group of 2-3 people. Choose a category from the following list and request it
immediately. Read about the films in the
group you’ve chosen and decide which ones you’ll view and incorporate in your
presentation. Create a question or claim that is Native-related and analytical that your group
will answer or assert (refer to Kilpatrick for ideas). You might focus on a
theme, a symbol, or a character(s), a theoretical concept such as agency,
visual/cultural sovereignty, etc.. Prepare a 20 minute oral presentation for
the class with a visual component; include film clips not to exceed 5 or so
minutes in length; film stills are fine; allow about 5 more minutes for
questions from the audience for 25 minutes presentation time total.
You will turn in a document that lists group members
and the role each played in your group, sources
consulted--see the Resources button for links to essays, books and websites
about the films, films viewed and a summary of your presentation (about 4 pages).
Remember to be analytical, to use critical thinking skills, and to put this in
the context of the history of Natives in film. How does your analysis add to
this study? For the
presentation: what idea do you most want your audience to understand? Provide
the "SO WHAT?"--why is your analysis important in to Native Studies and to
Native film? Why does your project matter?
